Buying and evaluation guide

Compare poker solvers by the job and the game

Before comparing a chart or a performance number, establish what was solved. A browser library, a custom preflop engine and a per-combo postflop solver serve different jobs.

Start with capability, not a brand ranking

Your needAsk the providerPulseGTO’s scope
Custom opening and defence rangesCan I change the preflop actions, stacks and rake?2–6 player NLHE blueprints
One postflop spotCan I input weighted ranges and a custom tree?Heads-up and three-way RangeCFR
Tournament payout pressureWhich ICM and future-game models are supported?Chip EV; no ICM
Browser-only studyAm I browsing existing results or calculating a new game?Published strategy browsing, not cloud custom solves
No internet everWhat are the activation and validation requirements?Local calculation; internet is required for licence activation/validation

A provider that supports a format you need may be the right choice even if another tool has more features elsewhere. Do not equate a six-player preflop engine with six-player exact postflop solving.

Recalculate Node controls and memory estimate
Choose stop conditions and inspect memory before launching a local postflop re-solve.

Local versus hosted work

Local solving makes your own CPU, RAM and storage the resource limits. A hosted service may supply compute or only serve a precomputed library; verify which. With local work, ask about checkpoints, file portability, supported operating systems and what remains usable after an update period ends.

PulseGTO’s desktop Engine is Windows-only with AVX2. Its own files form a strategy database and selected re-solved nodes can be stored in a blueprint. The web library is a separate browsing experience. Free browsing is not a free licence for custom desktop solving.

Make an accuracy comparison reproducible

Record starting ranges, stacks, pot, board, every allowed action, rake rules and stop conditions. A strategy for one bet size is not a strategy for five. If one solve samples turns, compare the card coverage as well as the reported number.

Use the same definition of exploitability or best-response gain. A preflop regret indicator in bb/hand is not directly comparable with a postflop percentage of one pot. Frequency differences on nearly indifferent actions can be large while their EV cost is small. The benchmark reading guide explains what PulseGTO’s measurements show.

Check the treatment of opponent tendencies

“Node locking” can mean a fixed strategy, a restricted action set or another model. Ask which player, street and hand granularity are supported. In PulseGTO, preflop rules restrict allowed actions; a heads-up postflop root lock can fix a mix. Three-way root locks are not supported.

Different public tools describe their own methods: PioSOLVER’s node-locking documentation and HRC’s postflop documentation are starting points for checking those providers. These links are not a tested cross-product feature ranking.

Evaluate cost with hardware and updates

Include the machine required to run your intended game, disk space for files, licence seats and update terms. A fast river-only solve and a whole-game preflop run are not comparable benchmarks. Peak RAM and tree size can matter more than a simple seconds-per-iteration number.

PulseGTO publishes a laptop 6-max 100 bb run and separate RangeCFR reference checks. Each has a defined setup. Current pricing and trial availability are on Pricing. This guide deliberately omits changing competitor prices and unverified “faster than” claims.

A useful trial test

  1. Rebuild one spot you already understand, with the same ranges, tree and rake.
  2. Read a strategy and its action EVs; make sure you understand the baseline.
  3. Save a result and load it again.
  4. Check memory estimates on the larger spot you actually plan to study.
  5. Compare workflow convenience and measured results, not just the most attractive grid.

If your trial job needs a feature that is not supported, stop there rather than assuming a different button or a larger iteration count will add it.

Try the workflow on your own computer

Start a seven-day Engine trial from your account while the trial campaign is available. Activation and licence validation require internet access. Windows and an AVX2-capable CPU are required. Availability and licence terms are on the pricing page.
